Designed to land motor
vehicles or one medium (30-ton) tank directly on a
beach. |
Description |
Two designs are in use,
the HIGGINS type constituting the majority. Recent changes include
addition of machine guns and magnesyn compass, higher bulwark, and
slight rearrangement aft. |
Capacity |
One 30-ton tank or
60,000 lb. of cargo, or 60 troops. BUREAU type (few in number)
carries 120,000 lb. of cargo. |

850 miles @ 6 ¼ kts.;
500 miles @ 7 ¼ kts.; 140 miles @ fullspeed.
